If you're one of the few, but fervent fans of Flowers From the Rubble...
Or if you subject yourself unnecessarily to asinine alliteration...
Or if you take delight in the metaphysics of self-reference...
Or if you've made it this far without navigating to a site that isn't a waste of your time...
I apologize for the absence. I was occupied by a spirited discussion on abortion in my Facebook profile. One of the most fascinating aspects of the aforementioned discussion on abortion was the sheer number of studies conducted both for and against it. I would click on the hyperlink above if only to marvel at the research conducted by Manny Amador (for those against abortion) and Michael Aquino (for those who believe it should be offered as an option).
In lieu of coherent commentary (When will this man give alliteration a rest?) on this very important public safety issue, allow me to tease you with some of the more interesting conversations in that thread.
Such as this:
Juan M. Borra III: @Bob: As always, your insights are both welcome and valued. At the end of the day, I think we should move away from arguments that require a person to fit a certain profile before we take that person's insights seriously. Surely we can discuss things rationally without resorting to trial by personality?
Acting ethically is difficult because we try to apply general or universal principles to specific circumstances. As such, it becomes hard sometimes to determine what is ethical from what is unethical. But I think dialogue, like what all of us labor to do on these threads, is the key towards expanding the discussion so that all valid points of view are considered before making conclusions.
In the end, we all want the same thing. We just struggle towards it because we approach it from different directions. :)
Bob Guerrero: Well put. :)
Manny Amador: Let me make a few absolutely indisputable statements...First, this thread is a candidate for one of the longest threads started by John-D. Second, I'm still GWAPO (just check my cell number).
Thanks all for keeping this thread cool! You can all line up for my autograph now...
Or this:
Manny Amador: ...The Guttmacher Institute also made use of this shibolleth. it claims that abortiion rates will rise and then fall...
Bob Guerrero: Shibolleth. Big word. What does it mean? :-p
Miguel de Jesus: @ bob - think that shibolleth means that this thread and the overpopulation thread just came together into some amorphous blob leaving us lesser beings who haven't done the research praying that john d would stop tagging us on these threads.
Bob Guerrero: Nice. I say Manny Amador should play football with us on Sundays. We can make it a pro-RH team versus anti-RH. :-p
Miguel de Jesus: @ bob - brilliant! and in the spirit of the debate i suggest the anti-RH bill team be allowed to field as many players as they want and the pro-RH bill team not be allowed to pray before the game.
Michael Aquino: @Bob - as an etymology nut, I absolutely LOVE the word "shibboleth". It has an interesting Biblical origin - one Israelite tribe used it as a password to distinguish and kill the members of another Israelite tribe. The latter tribe spoke a dialect that didn't have the "sh" sound; If you were challenged to say the word "shibboleth" and you mangled it, you were dead meat. (Judges 12:5-6)
Bob Guerrero: I think Michael Aquino would be a very valuable striker for the Pro-RH Football team. He seems to be very good at finding cracks in the Anti-RH defense...
Juan M. Borra III: @Bob & Miguel: Brilliant! Someone has to document the conversations around the pitch though. Instead of clever ball fakes, we can dazzle people with scientific studies. :)
Bob Guerrero: I worry lang that the anti-RH team might have difficulty recruiting players... :-p
Michael Aquino: Bob, if only there were a correlation between my passion for argument and my ability on the football pitch. ;-)
Miguel de Jesus: @ bob - why? because they would all be unborn?
Bob Guerrero: Miguel - No, because I think our recruiting pool would be a bit bigger than theirs haha. Peace!
As usual, the picture above has very little to do with the topic. Enjoy!

Hey John-D! ;) Great blog entry. I admire you for taking on such a challenging topic which usually results in very heated arguments. I really enjoyed the excerpts you shared from your facebook (since I don't have one) on the thread. I did click on the link - love the action photo! =)
Tweet! Thanks for your kind comments. Normally, this topic is almost incendiary when the rabid proponents of those for and against abortion duke it out, but I don't allow that to happen on any discussions I host. :)
The action shot was taken by a friend of mine who played for exactly 5 minutes, asked to be taken out, and spent the rest of the time taking pictures of the players. Needless to say, he's the first person we call whenever we have a game. Vanity! :D
