My apologies for the awful pun in the title of this post, but that's as much levity as I can muster given the news that Barack Obama signed the order allowing federal money to be given to international groups that perform abortions or provide information on the option to have abortions.
While there is much to admire in the newly-minted US president, there is also much which invites concern. It's not enough to mollify conservative Christian elements in the US by choosing a Catholic vice-president, especially a Catholic who invites attention by asserting that "The next Republican that tells me I'm not religious I'm going to shove my rosary beads down their throat." (Thanks to ProLifeBlogs.com for the link!)
It's more important to, remarks regarding the use of rosaries for martial purposes notwithstanding, address the valid concerns that these elements raise.
What is President Obama's stand on reproductive health? What is his stand on abortions? Will he encourage a culture that promotes and nurtures life?

I like the play of words in your title Johnds. Pun taken!
I think he believes he's doing more good by signing that - upholding a woman's right to good health, freedom of choice and all the lofty grand standing ideals that supposedly come with it. In reality, he's just given more women the right to end a life safely, which is crazy.
BTW, Lucia and Papot look so beautiful!
Thanks for the comment Ther!
Your insight into freedom of choice is inspiring. :-) You must have had some great teachers!
Obama already said during the campaign that "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act,", so his position on abortion is pretty much clear. It is the kind of change we don't need. I am praying for him to succeed though (not in terms of aborting children) but in terms of him to be lead the US (and the global economy) out of this financial crisis. Kawawa naman ang mga natatanggal sa trabaho.
Willy, you're right. We should all pray for him. Regardless of his views on abortion, he can do a whole lot of good for so many people.
that's a nice photo of lucia! :D am happy for your family and for her baptism!
we can only really pray for obama's change of heart...
At this point, let me simply share something that was written on one of the placards at a previous March for Life, which I found really striking when I first saw it:
"No law can give me the right to do what is wrong."
I think it was Abraham Lincoln who said this. Words worth contemplating by the new president. I'm praying for him, too.
On a totally different note, please post the pictures of Lucia's baptism!!!
