Recently, my father, Juan Vargas Borra, celebrated his 61st birthday in Xiamen, China. Now much may be made of the fact that he is a devoted family man, that his intelligence is exceeded only by his compassion for the less fortunate, that all who encounter him are left with the distinct impression that they had been in the comforting presence of a jovial "man for others".For me, the true measure of my dad's character can be gleaned whenever you ask my dad what his profession is. His automatic reply?
"Grandfather!"
