While I try to get back in the groove of things, let me share with you a wonderful piece of writing that I came across earlier this morning by Dahlia Lithwick in Slate. Actor and philanthropist Paul Newman may have passed away, but his quiet service for humanity lives on in his Hole in the Wall Gang Camp:
Hollywood legend holds that Paul Newman is and will always be larger-than-life, and it's true. Nominated for 10 Oscars, he won one. He was Fast Eddie, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy. And then there were Those Eyes. But anyone who ever met Paul Newman will probably tell you that he was, in life, a pretty regular-sized guy: A guy with five beautiful daughters and a wonder of a wife, and a rambling country house in Connecticut where he screened movies out in the barn. He was a guy who went out of his way to ensure that everyone else—the thousands of campers, counselors, and volunteers at his camps, the friends he involved in his charities, and the millions of Americans who bought his popcorn—could feel like they were the real star.

Santa Rita de Cascia Parish (the patron saint of impossible causes) in Gingoog City, Cagayan de Oro hosted the Pilot Alpha Course last August 22 to 24.
What was thought to have been, due to these hard times, an impossible cause was made possible through the able guidance of Rev. Fr. Joel M. Lusat, SSJV, and the hardworking Alpha volunteers from Cagayan de Oro City.
Seventy (70) guests from the different BECs were able to complete the course. Their experiences were marked by different manifestations of our Lord’s love, from warm, wide smiles, to tears shed in grateful recognition of what our Lord has done for us.
We would like to thank Dr. Benie A. Sy, Regional Director for Alpha in Visayas and Mindanao for his tireless efforts in our Lord’s vineyard.
May we always keep Christ at the center of our lives, and trust in His mercy and compassion!
I should be in mourning. After all, my beloved MacBook, the repository of my hopes, dreams, aspirations, and most especially, my digital comics, is now on its way to the service center. But it's amazing how the good Lord taketh, and the good Lord giveth in return.
My new temporary laptop is an HP Pavilion dv2700 Notebook PC, Artist Edition. It's not quite a Mac, but the fact that I'm even using one is reflective of the many blessings that come my way doing my little bit for others.
I refuse to embarrass my benefactor by revealing any names, but I would like to call attention to this person's generosity, albeit through this roundabout way.
Many thanks!
